Upon joining the University of St. Andrews in 2016, Josh applied to be part of the presenting team on STAR Radio, the student radio station. After a successful application, he was invited to an interview demo, where he unsuccessfully pitched the idea of a 90s/00s pop show. A year later, he thought up the idea of a debate show, but couldn't decide whether to make it about football or politics (his two favourite debate topics). His uncharacteristic indecisiveness resulted in FC Politics (half-football, half-politics). After recruiting fellow student and close friend, Matthew Gerard, as co-host, the duo successfully pitched the idea to the STAR producers, and were offered the prime time slot of 8-9 every Saturday evening.
Deciding upon "stage names", in fitting with the informal nature of the programme, DJ Posh and Matty G's new show debuted in October 2017, breaking the station's all-time listener record in the process. Throughout the following seven months, they would go on to break this record a further four times, which culminated in almost doubling the amount of listeners they began with. At the annual STAR Awards, FC Politics was voted the third-best show of the year by the student population, with over 800 votes.
